Suggestions for the design of empirical communication studies

Abstract

Of the various approaches to pursuing a given research question, some are clearly better than others. Some questions, moreover, are more worthy of pursuit than others. In dealing with these matters, the role of the critic is to provide guidelines for the evaluation of questions and the choice of strategies for providing the most meaningful answers possible.
