Organizing and the social psychology of organizing

Pages 231-240 | Published online: 22 May 2009

Abstract

As a kind of “retrospective sense‐making,” this essay describes how organizational communication scholars and others have made use of and been influenced by the work of Karl Weick. With that as context, several key concepts are isolated and discussed as they have been utilized and adapted by others. The essay concludes by noting how these developments have resulted in enhanced understanding of organizing as communicating, organizing as sense‐making, and organizational culture.
