Storytelling is a prominent feature of everyday discourse, and the growing literature on this aspect of communication indicates that stories are used to accomplish a number of interaction goals. This ethnography, completed over a seven‐month period, focused on the role of storytelling in womens’ conversations at a popular fitness facility. Of specific interest were the interpretive themes that emerged over time as consistent elements of the conversations among bodyworkers. These themes and the stories that describe them formed the substance of this report.
