Abstract
The ranking of journals, universities, and doctoral programs has been a topic of interest in the field of criminology and criminal justice for many years. The ranking and prestige of scholars and professors in particular is very significant in the academic world because this is used as the basis for receiving a higher status for institutions, additional funding, more capable staff, and prospective students. Overall, this study sought to re‐assess the ranking of a previously identified cohort of criminology and criminal justice and sociology academic stars by utilizing a new software program entitled Harzing Publish or Perish. This program calculates indices and statistics regarding the publication and citation counts of highly productive scholars. The findings were similar to studies that attempted to rank the same cohort of authors in that certain authors maintained approximately the same position regardless of the ranking technique.
