Social distancing toward gays and lesbians among college students in Lagos, Nigeria

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study focuses on social distancing toward homosexuals among college students in a higher institution in Lagos, Nigeria, One hundred twelve students (112) were recruited out of 145 that visited the students affairs unit. Social distancing was assessed using a questionnaire that included a case description and 16 social situations with given options of responses along maybe/definitely yes/no. Negative social distancing was reported in situations that involved closer family or deeply intimate associations. Positive distancing was reported in situations that involved retaining friendships, business, and less deeply intimate associations.
