Network problems appear in a spectrum of disciplines such as engineering, computer science, operations research, transportation, telecommunication, biomedicine, social networks, decision support systems, and manufacturing. Recent advances in computer systems, algorithms and data structures, have made it possible to solve classes of network problems that until recently were intractable.

The 5th International Conference on Network Analysis (NET2015) took place on 18–20 May 2015 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

The conference was sponsored by the Laboratory of Algorithms and Technologies for Networks Analysis of the Higher School of Economics.

The purpose of this conference was to bring together scientists and engineers from industry, government, and universities to exchange knowledge and results in a broad range of topics relevant to the theory and practice of network analysis. Many contributions addressed the reliability of complex networks, software, theory, methodology, and applications.

This special issue of Optimization Methods and Software contains refereed selected papers presented at the NET2015 conference. The papers in this special issue reflect the interdisciplinary efforts of scientists from academia and industry to model and solve complicated network and related optimization problems.
