Abstract

A tetracyclic aromatic alkaloid, norsegoline (1) was synthesized from methyl 4-amino-3-methoxybenzoate (2) and 5-methoxymethylidene-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione (3) in six steps.
