The ONA Network and the Transnationalization of Neo-Nazi-Satanism

Received 01 Nov 2021, Accepted 29 Dec 2021, Published online: 12 Jan 2022

Abstract

This article focuses on the Order of the Nine Angles (ONA), which from a fringe group of the British far-right in the 1970s has evolved a violent philosophy and a loose and leaderless network of individuals and groups that merge National Socialism and Satanism; endorses tyrants, cult leaders, non-NS terrorists, and child-abusers; promotes violence, celebrates death, and advocates for real-life actions. The article will analyze the connection between ONA’s philosophy and the development of what can be called Fused Extremism. This phenomenon manifests itself in groups that merge different types of violent extremism and have crystallized through the Internet into a trans-national, leaderless, decentralized, and subversive network that promotes terrorism and violence.

29 There is a debate over the identity of “Anton Long” and whether it is indeed David Myatt. 49 Magian in ONA context can be understood as the Judeo-Christian civilization, cultures, structures, political, socio-political, and financial systems, ethos, and morals. According to Goodrick-Clarke, the term originated from Oswald Spengler’s “Magian soul” and Francis Parker Yockey’s Jewish “cultural distortion,” and was allegedly adopted by Myatt in his writings. See: Goodrick-Clarke, 2002, pp. 221–222.

50 ONA followers date their manuscripts from 1889, which is the first “Year of Fayen” (also known as “Year of Fire” or “Year of the Fuhrer”). According to ONA texts, the word Fayen “signifies joy/rejoicing” and refers to:

sacrifice, the shedding of blood […] So ‘year of fayen’ means ‘year of rejoicing’, with the first ‘year of rejoicing’ being 1889. Why? Because that dates the birth of the person who considered himself just the precursor of Vindex/Kalki and who thus, by his accomplishments (such as the Waffen SS), prepared the way for ‘the one against Time’ [i.e. Vindex] and which ‘one against Time’, via the shedding of blood, by sacrifice, creates the new Imperium, who thus presences a new Aeon, and who bloodily avenges the defeat of 1945.

In other words, Hitler is the precursor of Vindex, ONA’s messianic and apocalyptic figure who will avenge the defeat of Nazi Germany, destroy Magian forces, and establish a new galactic empire. See: Rachael Stirling (ed.), Tyberness - Order of Nine Angles: Toward the Abyss, TWS Nexion, Oxonia, Volume 2, September 2019, retrieved from o9a.org: https://www.o9a.org/wp-content/uploads/tyberness-v2a-print.pdf

51 The term Mundane refers to anything or anyone who is not part of, associated with, or follows the ONA’s philosophy. Mundane refers to the current world order; to the “system” and the government, to institutions, individuals, and societies that do not follow the ONA. According to the ONA-affiliated blog Lapis Philosophicus, the term Mundane refers to “Those who do not belong to or who do not associate with our sinister tribes, our traditional nexions, or who do not share our sinister ethos, or our sinister way of life.” See: “ONA-FAQ,” Lapis Philosophicus (The Order of Nine Angles – Labyrinthos Mythologicus), [n.d.]. accessed October 19, 2021, https://lapisphilosophicus.wordpress.com/about-2/ona-faq/

52 Fenrir - Journal of Satanism and the Sinister, is the main magazine of the ONA. The magazine was edited by Audun, which is allegedly one of the pseudonyms of Richard Moult (also known as Stephen Brown, Christos Beest and Beesty Boy), a British musician, artist, and prominent ONA content producer. The magazine contains essays by “Anton Long,” David Myatt, representatives of different ONA nexions, and other contributors. See: Miller, “Beyond the Iron Gates,” November 27, 2018; Kaplan, “Religiosity and the Radical Right,” p. 115.

53 A nexion (gate) is an individual or a group who practices ONA sinister rituals and magic in order to “presencing” the dark. As Goodrick-Clarke explained, nexions, which “are created by evil acts and blasphemous rituals,” provide access to the acausal realm. See: Goodrick-Clarke, 2002, p. 218.

54 The Drecc, according to ONA manuscripts, are “those who belong to the sinister kindred of what, in Old Aeon-speak, was and is exoterically known as ‘The Order of Nine Angles’, composed as our sinister kindred now is of sinister tribes, and of more traditional nexions, spread across the planet we call Earth. We are Drecc – those who bring conflict; who vex others; who tempt others; who seek to defy the limits and laws set and imposed by The Mundanes. We are heresy, chaos, disruption, conflict, terror, combat, temptation, and also forbidden pleasures and forbidden joy.” Quoted from: “We, The Drecc - Heretical Outlaws of The Sinister,” in The Dreccian Way, ONA.org, 120 Year of Fayen (2009). accessed October 6, 2021, http://www.o9a.org/wp-content/uploads/texts/the-drecc.pdf

55 An archive of core ONA texts is registered under the URL omega9alpha.com and is available as of October 2021.

56 The website o9a.org is running by a female ONA follower called Chloe Ortega (also known as Chloe 532 and Kryptonymus). It was created in 2010 and hosted at the Los Angeles-based company DreamHost LLC. The website serves as one of the primary sources for ONA material.

59 The Reichsfolk ideology of “ethical, non-racist” National Socialism was promoted via the out-of-date blog Cosmic Reich (https://cosmicreich.wordpress.com), which published the following collection of articles, most of them by David Myatt. See, for example: “Ethical National-Socialism: A Collection of Essays,” Cosmic Reich (2009 CE). https://cosmicreich.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/ethical-ns.pdf (accessed October 11, 2021); “The Two Interpretations Of National Socialism Ours And Theirs,“Omega 9 Alpha, [n.d.]. accessed December 26, 2021, https://www.o9a.org/wp-content/uploads/nazi-o9a-v2.pdf

60 According to Myatt, “racism, racialism, racial prejudice, and nationalism” are views that “have no place in the Numinous Way. Such things – such abstractions – are the genesis of suffering, and thus contradict the very essence of The Numinous Way.” See: David Myatt, The Numinous Way, [n.d.]; See also “Interview with David Myatt on the Numinous Way and “The Folk,” Darkness Converge, July 15, 2009. accessed December 26, 2021, https://darknessconverges.wordpress.com/2009/07/15/interview-with-david-myatt-on-the-numinous-way-and-the-folk/.

The Finnish AWD cell called itself "Siitoin Squadron," after Pekka Siitoin - one of Finland’s most prominent Cold War-era neo-Nazis who also embraced Satanism. As for the weapons that the group displayed in its images on Twitter, it is not easy to estimate whether they are real or replicas.

131 There are numerous examples of the involvement of neo-Nazis in child abuse or dissemination of child porn. For example, National Action members accepted, legitimized, and fueled violent sexual fantasies and behavior of some of its members, one of whom was a convicted pedophile. For further reading, see: Matthew Collins, Nazi Terrorist: The Story of National Action (UK, London: Hope Not Hate, 2019). In early October 2021, it was reported that the police in Rio de Janeiro arrested a man who was accused of raping a minor. At the man’s house, police found child pornography, Nazi memorabilia, and Nazi-era weapons. According to the lead detective on the case, the suspect “is a Holocaust denier, he’s homophobic, he’s a pedophile and he says he hunts homosexuals […] I’m no doctor, but he seems to me an insane psychopath.” See: Rodrigo Viga Gaier, “Brazil police find 3 mln euro Nazi haul at home of suspected pedophile,” Reuters, October 6, 2021. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/brazil-police-find-3-mln-euro-nazi-haul-home-suspected-pedophile-2021-10-06/
