From the Editor

In this final issue of Volume 33, I am pleased to introduce six articles. The issue opens with the article entitled “Investigating the Critical Success Factors for Implementing Electronic Document Management Systems in Governments: Evidence From Jordan,” by Haitham Alshibly, Raymond Chiong, and Yukun Bao. Factors important to successful electronic document management systems implementation were identified. Through a questionnaire survey and factor analysis, these factors were categorized and confirmed as important for successful system implementation. In the second article, “The Implementation of Governance, Risk, and Compliance IS: Adoption Lifecycle and Enterprise Value,” authors Konstantina Spanaki and Anastasia Papazafeiropoulou developed a framework to analyze governance, risk, and compliance information systems implementation. Three enterprise value areas for implementation were identified, including integration, optimization, and information. Next, authors Kuo-Chung Chang and Yoke May Seow applied institutional theory and the resource-based view to investigate the motivations driving the extent of enterprise systems adoption in firms. Their article is entitled “Effects of Adoption and Assimilation of Enterprise Systems on Business Performance: A Senior Executive’s Perspective.” Their findings suggest institutional forces and information systems resources significantly influence adoption, which indirectly impacts the enterprise systems assimilation. The fourth article, “Are U.K. Citizens Satisfied With E-Government Services? Identifying and Testing Antecedents of Satisfaction” by Vishanth Weerakkody, Zahir Irani, Habin Lee, Nitham Hindi, and Ibrahim Osman, reports on results from a survey of e-government service adopters across the United Kingdom. Information quality, system quality, trust, and cost were found to have a significant impact on U.K. citizens’ satisfaction with e-government services. In the fifth article, entitled “Losing [IT] Control to Gain It: Exploring Organizational Linkages of Social Media Technology,” by Nelson King and Leila Khauli, a case study of the use of social media by one local affiliate of a multi-national retailer is undertaken to examine several IT control points by which the parent can still exert control over the affiliate in this realm. Finally, in the last of the six articles in this issue, entitled “Impact of IT Governance and IT Capability on Firm Performance,” authors Peiqin Zhang, Kexin Zhao, and Ram L. Kumar empirically validate that IT governance is an important antecedent of IT capability, which in turn results in improved firm performance.
