Exploratory Analysis of Internet of Things (IoT) in Healthcare: A Topic Modelling & Co-citation Approaches

ABSTRACT

Internet of Things (IoT) have made a significant impact in healthcare domain. The purpose of this study is to unravel key themes latent in the academic literature on IoT applications in healthcare. Using topic modeling and author co-citation techniques, we identified five dominant clusters of research. Our results show that research in healthcare IoT has mainly focused on the technical aspects with little attention to social concerns. Our paper provides directions for future research.

Ramakrishna Dantu

Ramakrishna Dantu is an Assistant Professor at the California State University, Sacramento. He teaches computer programming classes such as Python and Java for undergraduate students. His research has been published in several national and international conferences such as Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). Prior to changing his career to academia, he worked in the IT industry for over 16 years. Some of his teaching and research interests include software development, healthcare IT, analytics, and social media.

Indika Dissanayake

Indika Dissanayake is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management at the Bryan School of Business and Economics, University of North Carolina Greensboro. She received her Ph.D. in Information Systems from the College of Business Administration, the University of Texas at Arlington. Her research interests include crowdsourcing, social media, online health communities, sharing economy, and virtual communities. Her research has been published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, Information & Management, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems.

Sridhar Nerur

Sridhar Nerur is the Goolsby-Virginia and Paul Dorman Endowed Chair in Leadership and Professor of Information Systems at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). His research has been published in premier outlets such as MIS Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Communications of the ACM, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, and IEEE Software. He has served on the editorial boards of the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) and the Journal of Association for Information Systems (JAIS). His research and teaching interests include social networks, machine learning/AI/deep learning, text analytics, neuroeconomics, and agile software development.
