From the Editor

I am pleased to introduce issue 38 number 3, which is a special issue on “The Business Value of Data Analytics.” The special issue editors are Tsipi Heart, Ono Academic College, Israel; Arik Ragowsky, Wayne State University, USA; and Ajit Sharma, Wayne State University, USA. The five articles included in this issue are introduced by the Special Issue Editors. I wish to thank them for their quality work in preparing this excellent special issue. It is an honor and pleasure to introduce them:

Tsipi Heart, PhD

Tsipi acquired her PhD at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, her MBA from Tel-Aviv University, and BS in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. After serving as CIO at local and international hotel chains for nearly fifteen years, Tsipi has worked as a consultant on information technology strategy, implementation and use, as well as software quality assurance and software process improvement. Among her customers were the Israeli Chemical Industries (ICL), El-Al, and EDS Israel. After spending two years at University College Cork, Ireland, she held a lecturer and researcher position at the Department of Industrial Engineering & Management, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. As of 2012, Tsipi holds a senior lecturer and researcher position at the Faculty of Business Administration, Ono Academic College. She became head of the information systems program, and then Head of the School of Computer Science and Information Systems since 2019. Tsipi’s research interests include data analytics in general, and in the healthcare industry in particular, Information systems strategy, adoption, and implementation, technological innovation in general and Software as a Service (SaaS) in particular, and information systems in healthcare. She has presented academic papers at numerous conferences, including the prestigious European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) and the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Her publications appear in various academic journals, as The Data Base for Advances in Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), Health Policy and Technology, The Israel Journal of Health Policy Research, Patient Education and Counseling (PEC), International Journal of Medical Informatics (IJMI), the Medical Decision Making (MDM), among others.

Arik Ragowsky, PhD

Arik is the Director of the Manufacturing Information Systems Center at the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University. He received his MS and PhD in Information Systems from the School of Management, Tel-Aviv University. His experience includes working as a programmer, systems analyst, project manager, and consultant for various companies and as a CIO of a manufacturing company. Arik is a member of SIM (Society for Information Management) and serves on the board of the Detroit chapter. Arik has published in such journals as Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Information Technology & Management, Communications of the ACM, Information & Management, Information Systems Management (ISM), and Communication of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). Arik is also a Senior Editor at the Information Systems Management. His current research interests are in the value of information systems, IS business alignment, and strategic information systems.

Ajit Sharma, PhD

Ajit holds a Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Engineering and a Masters in Industrial Management. He completed an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and later came back to earn a PhD in Technology and Operations. He started his academic career at Carnegie Mellon University as a Professor of business technologies, teaching courses in business technology consulting and information systems, for which he received the Dean’s Teaching Award. He is currently an Assistant Professor of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship at Wayne State University in Detroit. Before entering academia, Ajit worked in industry for over 12 years, primarily in the Robotics industry. He has worked for firms such as Fanuc Robotics, Xerox, and General motors. His research interests are in the uses of artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital technologies for amplifying value generating potential of organizations and individuals. Since 2015, he has been running LIME Lab, a nonprofit firm that provides robotics and programming training to k12 kids in the city of Detroit.
