Abstract
Background: A patient with a floating kidney and myofascial pain syndrome in the ipsilateral external oblique muscle.
Findings: A female had aggravated right abdominal pain and responded poorly to medication and physical therapy. An examination revealed tender spots in the right kidney with referred pain to the trigger points [TrP] in the right abdominal oblique muscles. Following laboratory work-up, floating kidney was diagnosed. After TrP injections, the pain completely subsided.
Conclusion: Myofascial pain syndrome in the abdominal muscles may be caused by a floating kidney. Treating an underlying pathological lesion is important when attempting to eliminate TrPs.
