Abstract

Piezoelectric transformer (PT) is a device which transforms electrical voltage by using both direct and converse piezoelectric effects. Many types and shapes of PT have been developed for more than 50 years. It was found that each type or shape has advantage over others in different ways thus each of them is suitable for different applications. In this work hexagonal disc PT made out of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) was investigated in comparing to the common circular disc shape. Results shown that 1) Resonance frequency of hexagonal disc is higher than that of circular disc. 2) Circular disc PT could provide higher voltage gain than hexagonal PT. 3) The voltage gain from hexagonal discs PTs which have different electrode patterns are the same.
