Abstract

A novel carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin grafted polyacrylamide (CM-β-CD-PAM) was successfully prepared and applied in the adsorption of MB molecules in aqueous solution. The adsorption performance of CM-β-CD-PAM for MB was investigated by changing pH values and temperature of dye solution. The results showed that CM-β-CD-PAM was an effective adsorbent and has high adsorption capacity for MB. The negative value of free energy change indicated that the adsorption of CM-β-CD-PAM for MB was spontaneous. The mechanism of adsorption was ascribed to the formation of inclusion complexes between MB molecules and nano-cavities of CDs from CM-β-CD-PAM, hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between adsorbate-adsorbent.
