ABSTRACT

To obtain composite materials with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), Cu/ZrW2O8 composite layers were prepared by co-electrodeposition. The influence of the co-electrodeposition parameters on the particle content in the composite layers and the effects of particle content on the thermal expansion and microhardness of the layers were studied. In general, the addition of ZrW2O8 particles significantly enhanced the microhardness and reduced the CTE of the Cu/ZrW2O8 composite materials. The surface morphology changed with the current density and ZrW2O8 particle loading. Finally, the CTE of the Cu/ZrW2O8 composite materials was much lower than that of pure Cu.
