Mesomorphic Behavior of N,N′- Bis[4-(4-alkoxybenzoyloxy) benzylidenel- 3,3′-diaminodiphenylsulfones

Abstract

A new series of sulfur ligated Siamese twin mesogens, N,N′-bis[4-(4-alkoxybenzoyloxy)benzylidene - 3,3′-diaminodiphenylsulfoneshas been studied for the thermotropic phase transition behavior. A stable or metastable nematic phase is exhibited by the methoxy to tetradecyloxy derivatives and a metastable smectic C phase by the dodecyloxy to octadecyloxy derivatives.
