Abstract
Computer simulation results for spin models and liquid crystal ordering in aerogels have been compared in order to assess our understanding of the modeling of these confined systems. The various models adopted so far are compared with experimental results and with simulation data for a new Lebwohl-Lasher type model with sprinkled silica spins and none is found to be completely satisfactory.
