Abstract

Explicit expressions of either frequency equation or frequency response function (FRF) have been derived for multiple cracked bar. The expressions allow to thoroughly investigate the effect of cracks on the modal parameters such as natural frequencies and FRF of bar with different boundary conditions. The exact expression of FRF provides a basis to propose an efficient procedure for multi-crack detection in pile by modal testing technique. Numerous examples are numerically examined for illustrating the developed theory, and an experimental study is accomplished for validating the proposed crack detection procedure.
