Susan Spero

Susan Spero, Ph.D. taught education, interpretation and new technology in Museum Studies at the John F. Kennedy University for 30 years, as Full Professor and as the final Chair of the Department. She is a former MER board member, serving most years as a part of the editorial team. As a professor, working with words has permeated her long tenure. She has helped panicked students practice writing, and has supported the writing of emerging professionals and experienced colleagues. This issue represents her keen interest in breaking down myths related to writing in order to make the complex nature of museum writing more visible and inviting to those hesitant to write.

Katherine Whitney

Katherine Whitney is an independent consultant who provides expertise in exhibit development, interpretive planning, research, and label writing. She is co-editor of the non-fiction anthology My Shadow is My Skin: Voices from the Iranian Diaspora (University of Texas Press, 2020) She has been invited by Beverly Serrell to be the co-author of the 3rd revision of the interpretive writing book, Exhibition Labels to be published in 2023. As a deeply experience museum label writer, published essayist and editor, Katherine’s interest in this issue is in exploring what it means to write for museums. Katherine additionally brings extensive editing skills to the guest editor team.
