The authors made a calculation error in the full-time equivalent (FTE) data, which led to a number of errors throughout the article. These have been corrected below. The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused.
In the print and online versions of the article, the following sentence in the Abstract was incorrect: “The annual FTE estimated using days was 2,557 and using hours was 2,855.”
The correct sentence is, “The annual FTE estimated using days was 5,117 and using hours was 5,702.”
In the print and online versions of the article, the following sentence in the Results section was incorrect: “In the years 2000–2009, there were 10 fatalities in Maine (38.6/100,000 FTE) and 4 in Massachusetts (82.6/100,000 FTE), resulting in an overall fatality rate of 49.6/100,000 FTE.”
The correct sentence is, “In the years 2000–2009, there were 10 fatalities in Maine (19.3/100,000 FTE) and 4 in Massachusetts (41.3/100,000 FTE), resulting in an overall fatality rate of 24.8/100,000 FTE.”
In the print and online versions of the article, the following sentence in the Discussion section was incorrect: “The average annual FTE calculated for the lobstermen of 2,458 is higher than all fisheries presented by Lincoln and Lucas9 except Alaska salmon (3,429 FTE).”
The correct sentence is, “The average annual FTE calculated for the lobstermen of 4,920 is higher than all fisheries presented by Lincoln and Lucas9, even Alaska salmon (3,429 FTE).
In the print and online versions of the article, the following sentence in the Discussion section was incorrect: “We used the FTE per license estimated in this study for the years 2012–2013 multiplied times the average number of licenses in 2000–2009 as a denominator for the 14 fatalities in the decade between 2000 and 2009 and found a fatality rate of 49.6/100,000 FTE.”
