Abstract

Epoxy-based polymer 1 bearing 3-arylazopyridine ligand is shown to be an efficient chromogenic probe for sensing Hg2+ ion. Addition of Hg2+ ion to a THF/water (4:1,v/v) solution of 1 gave a visual color change from yellow to brownish yellow with distinctive UV-Vis spectral changes over the surveyed metal ions such as Cu2+, Zn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ag+ ions.
