Xenophobia as a Basis of Solidarity

Pages 37-51 | Published online: 11 Aug 2015

50. The discussion of “the problem of migration” comes down to nothing more than proposals for specific measures such as the adoption of visa regulations, making the laws tougher, and so on. There is no articulation of “the problem,” although it is obvious that different challenges call for different and frequently mutually exclusive solutions.

52. In the structure of the everyday consciousness of Russian working young people, the term “migrants” is not linked to any particular ethnic groups, particular religious faith or particular styles of behavior (Russian Foundation for the Humanities Project 13–03–00494, “An Analysis of the Characteristics of Mutual Adaptation and the Potential of Integration of Young Russians and Young Migrants From Central Asia and Transcaucasia”; the semantic differentiation method was used).
