Associations of Type a Behavior with the Emotional Traits of Anger and Curiosity

Pages 95-104 | Published online: 09 Sep 2010

The main purpose of the present research was to investigate the Type A Behavior Pattern (TABP) associations with anger, anxiety and curiosity measured as traits. A sample of 572 students (48.9% men) completed the State Trait Personality Inventory (STPI; Spielberger et al ., 1979) and the Jenkins Activity Survey (JAS; Jenkins et al ., 1979) under neutral conditions. Type As showed, independently of age and social desirability, high levels of trait-anger and trait-curiosity, but not trait-anxiety. The associations with emotional state measures were minimal. The discussion focuses on the relevance of these outcomes to the understanding of the emotional and personality dimensions of the TABP.
