Pages 177-182 | Received 21 Dec 2012, Accepted 24 Jun 2013, Published online: 24 Oct 2014

Abstract

A simple device has been developed to accomplish the requirement of precise thin subsections of the aqueous sediments at ease from the box or spade subcores. The device has been successfully tested onboard research vessel for performance and ease of use. It is small, sleek, lightweight, portable, and low cost. It has few mechanical controls, requires 0.25 m2 floor area, and is eco- and user-friendly. The device can be easily assembled and dissembled and operated by one or two person. The device is best suitable to obtain precise thin sections for determining various parameters in chemical, biological and geological oceanographic research.
