Pages 585-590 | Published online: 04 May 2018

ABSTRACT

Focusing on the Developmental Mathematics program installed by McHenry County College (MCC), this case study examines an integrative approach to reducing student dependency on developmental math. Facing the challenge of bridging the gap between K-12 and college readiness, MCC established a summer bridge program to help alleviate summer brain drain and help students acclimated themselves to the college classroom environment. College and high school faculty collaborated to create a more fluid transition for students by aligning coursework and targeting specific needs of students. With an articulated mission of preparing students for future success in postsecondary education this program tremendously benefits students by saving time and cost by skipping developmental math courses. Especially for institutions that are experiencing developmental education reform and implementing the completion agenda, this case study provides practical implications to ensure student success and institutional effectiveness.
