Abstract
Public and private 2‐year college faculty teaching credit courses in correctional facilities were surveyed to assess their opinions regarding three key factors (scheduling, library, computers) about such courses. Faculty cited factors that may indicate that the quality of such courses might be less than similar on‐campus courses. A summary question about the extent of learning indicated that 84% of correctional facility faculty included in this survey reported that their students learned as much or more than they would in a comparable on‐campus course. The information is the personal opinion of the faculty and was not compared with other measures of learning. The availability and ease of use of a library and the availability of computers were significant factors influencing faculty opinion. The data from 2‐year college faculty teaching in correctional facilities were compared with a database of 271 other faculty teaching off campus, but not in correctional facilities, and results were similar.
