Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relative influence of five factors on the magnitude of the pole-bend obtained in vaulting with a flexible pole. The data that were collected were measurements taken from the motion pictures of thirty vaulting trials by the University of Iowa's leading pole vaulter. The correlations between each of three factors (angle of take-off, horizontal velocity at take-off, and horizontal distance between the vaulter's top hand and his take-off foot at take-off) and the magnitude of the pole-bend were statistically significant (p <.05).
