It is a great pleasure and honor to welcome Professor Vladimir Torchilin as the new co-editor for Drug Delivery. He is currently Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University.

Throughout most of his career, his research interests have focused on the engineering of biomedical polymers and polymeric drugs, medicinal enzyme stabilization and immobilization, drug delivery and targeting, drug carriers including liposomes and micelles, long circulating drug carriers, novel imaging agents, antibody modification, and, more recently, experimental cancer immunology. His outstanding contributions to all of these areas are widely recognized by the international scientific community. He has received numerous awards in the broad range of his interests and has served on the editorial boards of several journals related to drug delivery research. As an example, his contributions have been acknowledged by his selection as President of the Controlled Release Society in 2005/2006, and he is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the International Liposome Society. His research publications number more than 300 in addition to at least 100 reviews and book chapters in areas related to drug delivery research.

His broad experience and knowledge of all aspects of drug delivery technology will provide a new dimension to the scope of the journal and to the readership and scientific community in general. With Professor Torchilin’s appointment we look forward to further growth in the journal as we contemplate further interest and expansion of research in this burgeoning field.

Welcome Professor Torchilin!
