Abstract
Inconsistent Nurturing as Control Theory (INC Theory) is a social scientific theory of interpersonal relationships that offers both researchers and practitioners a framework for examining and understanding communication, relational dynamics, and recovery outcomes in the addict-coaddict relationship. This article provides an overview of INC Theory and its attendant program of research, argues that the theory can be fruitfully applied to sex addiction and coaddiction, makes suggestions for future research, and outlines some basic clinical implications of the theory.
