Editorial

It is a privilege to make a contribution to our profession by becoming editor of Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity. I am glad to offer opportunities for peer review and publication of manuscripts crafted by dedicated authors. There are outstanding scholars and clinicians who share their research and experience with the readers. As I embark upon this journey, I am taking the liberty of sharing my perspective, with which you may disagree or wish to comment. I invite letters and professional responses to our published articles.

We stand on the shoulders of giants to see what is possible in the publication of our association's journal. Drs. Charles Samenow and Jennifer Schneider, scholars and leaders in the field of sexual addiction treatment and recovery, devoted hours to their excellent work. They carried on the great traditions in editorship and produced some volumes that stand the test of time. I am grateful for their contribution and leadership. I also thank the past and present members of the editorial board and ad hoc reviewers, including Marnia Robinson and Mary Deitch. The SASH board members have been very supportive and engaged in the production of the journal.

In my introductory essay (Southern, Citation2017), published in the joint issue of the journal, I attempted to designate some potential sections for organizing future issues of the journal. I welcome new scholars and clinicians to the editorial board. Please contact me if you would like to head a section or propose a special issue of the journal. When I listed the sections, I omitted two of the most important areas. I had taken for granted that we would continue to address sexual addiction and partners and family members of recovering sex addicts. Here is a revised list of potential sections that will only be useful if they are adopted by our readers and association members.

Sexual addiction

Partners and family members of sex addicts

Hypersexual disorder and compulsive sexual behavior disorder

Sexual abuse and trauma

Sex offending and paraphilias

Sexual dysfunction and dissatisfaction

Sexual health and optimal sexuality

It would be beneficial to receive manuscripts in any of these domains. I welcome submissions on theory, research, practice, and training.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve.
