Abstract
Interlibrary loan (ILL) lending of copies of articles from e-journals is a complex process. A requested article may be part of a collection package where the content is potentially transient. Filling a lending request for an e-journal requires that the license agreement permits ILL in general and ILL to libraries with the requester's characteristics in particular. The most efficient access to content is through an open URL, preferably within the request form. These three needs are discussed along with suggestions to automate ILL systems and improve the process of lending articles from e-journals.
