1The analysis used the 2011 World Bank classifications distinguishing lower income and middle-income countries. Middle-income countries are further subdivided into lower middle and upper middle, and categorization depends on a country's gross national income per capita. China is classified as an upper middle-income country and India as a lower middle-income country (siteresources.worldbank.org/DATASTATISTICS/Resources/CLASS.XLS).
