Changing Real Estate Journal Perceptions over Time

Abstract

A survey of experts identifies important attributes of journal quality and is used to determine whether researchers believe the quality of real estate journals has improved in recent years. Methodological rigor is the most important attribute in determining journal quality. Researchers believe the Journal of Real Estate Research has improved the most, especially on methodological rigor in comparison to the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics and the Journal of Urban Economics. An economics background and journal affiliation through authorship, editorial board membership, and sponsoring organization membership affect real estate journal evaluations. Persistence of attitudes, vested interests, and lack of familiarity with journal content and publication statistics contribute to static journal rankings.
