Abstract
In this article the author presents a simplified taxonomy of leadership responsibilities. This comprehensive overview is a system that executives and managers can understand and use. The taxonomy is based on reliable leadership analyses of the past century. It is presented as a hierarchical model of leadership behaviors and requirements, rather than as a set of leader personal characteristics. The present work–demand model of leadership is consistent with historic descriptions of leadership based on observation, and is consistent with the patterns noted in confirmatory research. This model of leadership includes categories, functions, and observed behaviors. This model can serve as a frame of reference for future models of leader personal characteristics, which are more subjective than leader behaviors and requirements.
