In Volume 52, Number 2 of The Journal of Sex Research, “Dating and Sexual Behavior Among Single Parents of Young Children in the United States,” (doi: 10.1080/00224499.2014.941454) by Peter B. Gray, Justin R. Garcia, Benjamin S. Crosier, and Helen E. Fisher, pp. 121–128, the data were described as being nationally representative. However, based on differing understanding of terminology across subfields, it is more appropriate to label these data as demographically representative. These data meet demographically representative requirements because they are based on current demographic estimates from the most recent Current Population Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. It is important to note these data are derived from established opt-in research panels.
