National Board Certification and Diversity: Questions To Consider

Pages 11-14 | Published online: 02 Apr 2008

Abstract

How can we assure that the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification process is authentic and meaningful for all teachers? For the past year I have had the honor of mentoring eight early childhood teachers from New Mexico toward the attainment of the national teaching certificate. Although I do not yet know the results of these educators' portfolio and examination efforts, the process for developing a professional portfolio and the questions that emerged during this process are addressed here.
