The authors of the article, "Development of a Binary End-of-Event Outcome Indicator for the NEMSIS Public Release Research Dataset" thank Mary E. (Emmy) Helander of Syracuse University for identifying two discrepancies between the tables and the Stata code included in the online supplementary appendix, as follows.
Table 1 should have included "Unknown AED Shockable Rhythm" (earrest_17 = 9901065) at ED arrival as an indication the patient was "presumptively dead" at that point. This criterion is correctly included in the Stata code in the supplementary appendix.
The Stata code in the supplementary appendix listed "eprocedures_03 == 42622008" as indicating external ventricular defibrillation. The correct code is 426220008, which appeared correctly in Table 2.
The online versions of Table 1 and Appendix A have been corrected.
