A Review of: “Corruption by Design: Building Clean Government in Mainland China and Hong Kong by Melanie Manion”

Pages 235-239 | Published online: 04 Jun 2008

Notes

A developing country, especially in the area of Southeast Asia and Latin America (with no Protestantism), usually has a very strong patron-client tie in its society, which easily nurtures corruption when its economy is undergoing rapid change. Whether economic development will gradually reduce the occurrence rate of corruption in this kind of country is not conclusive yet (Lipset and Lenz Citation2000).
