Is the Marine Limit in the Göteborg area too low?

Pages 7-10 | Received 30 Oct 1986, Published online: 06 Jan 2010

Abstract

A beach cave with associated rounded boulders and sandy deposits has been found east of Göteborg at a height of 110.4m a.s.l. The most plausible explanation of the origin of the cave seems to be that it is a wave-produced form. Unless the cave is pre-Weichselian it marks the Marine Limit (M.L.) in the area. The M.L. is usually expected to lie at about 100m a.s.l. around Göteborg. As reliable M.L. localities in the Göteborg area are lacking, it is possible that the M.L. is higher than usually expected.
