Effects of mercury on the marine interstitial species Nerilla antennata (Archiannelida, Nerillidae)

Pages 69-72 | Received 17 Apr 1992, Accepted 19 Jun 1992, Published online: 28 Jan 2009

Abstract

Immediate and delayed effects of mercury on the marine sand dwelling annelid Nerilla antennata were studied. Short static tests were performed on embryos, juveniles, and adults using different mercury concentrations, and the dose lethal to half of tested specimens was determined for each stage. Detectable effects of the teratogenic action of mercury were morphological anomalies, which most frequently affected appendages of the cephalic region.
