The articles in this issue are the outcomes of a broader research project on ‘Opportunities in CARICOM Migration: Brain Circulation, Diasporic Tourism and Investment’ funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and represent a collaborative effort between the Shridath Ramphal Centre (SRC) for International Trade Law, Policy and Services at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Cave Hill, Barbados, and the Centre for Trade Policy and Law (CTPL) at Carleton University.
The actual size of remittances, which would include unrecorded flows through formal and informal channels, is believed to be much larger.
Even when they do not return, migrants can facilitate the development of business and commercial networks between source and host countries.
