Mobile decision support and business intelligence: an overviewFootnote

Pages 4-9 | Published online: 15 Feb 2013

Abstract

Decision-making occurs in many places. Mobile decision support provides a technology solution that enables decision-makers to bring powerful decision-aiding capabilities with them while on the go. Business intelligence and data-driven decision support especially benefit from mobile computing. The effectiveness of mobile decision support is constrained by the features of applications, the quality of data used and the ability of decision-makers to interpret information and act upon it in real time. The constraints imposed by hardwired, desktop computing no longer exist. Constraints imposed by application design, data limitations and decision support users themselves remain a concern of designers. Basic decision support concepts must be understood to develop new applications that use the capabilities of mobile devices, cloud-based delivery, and real-time alerts and interactions.
