Compositions of seed fatty acids in some Lathyrus taxa from Turkey

Abstract

In the present study, fatty acid composition in mature seeds of the Lathyrus L. taxa were determined by using gas chromatography. Present results indicate that the seed oils of studied Lathyrus taxa have palmitic acid (C16:0) and stearic acid (C18:0) as major saturated fatty acids. Moreover, the present data show that oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2 n 6) and a—linolenic acid (C18:3 n 3) are major unsaturated fatty acids in studied Lathyrus taxa. The highest oleic acid (C18:1 n 9) content is found in L. boissieri (34,1%) and L. inconspicuus (24,5%) while L. clymenum and L. ochrus, which are members of section Clymenum, have highest polyunsaturated fatty acids, 66,7%, 73,6%, respectively.

Résumé

Dans la présente étude, la composition en acides gras des graines mûres de Lathyrus a été déterminée en utilisant la chromatographie en phase gazeuse. Les résultats présentés indiquent que les huiles de graines des Lathyrus étudiés contiennent pricipalement l'acide palmitique (C16: 0) et l'acide stéarique (C18: 0) comme acides gras saturés. En outre, les données montrent que l'acide oléique (C18: 1), l'acide linoléique (C18: 2 n 6) et l'acide linolénique (C18: 3 n 3) sont les principaux acides gras insaturés dans les taxons étudiés. La plus grande quantité d'acide oléique (C18: 1 n 9) a été trouvé chez L. boissieri (34,1%) et L. inconspicuus (24,5%), tandis que L. clymenum et L. ochrus, membres de la section Clymenum, sont plus riches en acides gras polyinsaturés 66,7%, 73,6%, respectivement.
