Abstract

Governance has become the subject of intense discussion in the context of sustainable tourism. Identifying the prerequisites for effective and sustainable governance from the stakeholders’ perspective through qualitative research methodology was the main goal of this research. For this purpose, an appropriate working group of authorized representatives of both public and non-governmental institutions in Antalya, Turkey was used to examine the functionality and vision of governance. The stakeholders’ opinions and ideas about destination governance were extracted under three main themes (shared vision, goal congruence, and interaction), and the findings of the research provide important information on how to encourage stakeholders’ support, commitment, and cooperation in the creation of a sustainable governance structure in the city of Antalya in Turkey.
