ABSTRACT
Forty strains isolates from patients with urinary tract infections were examined for 40 unit characters. Thirty-nine strains were found to belong to the species Escherichia coli. Expression of some virulence factors by uropathogenic E. coli strains was studied. Six strains secreted hemolysin into the culture medium. Thirty-three percentage of isolates expressed adhesins (seven strains adhered human erythrocytes in the presence of mannose, four strains expressed both mannose-resistance and mannose-sensitive adhesins). Seven E. coli strains possessed capsular polysaccharide—K 100 antigen.
