ABSTRACT
Organophosphorus compounds are widely used in medicine, agriculture and industry. Some organophosphates might cause disturbances of the genetic material. Some oxaphosphole derivatives possess biological activity and might influence proliferating cells. In present study a 96-h root growth inhibition test was carried out in order to determine the toxicity of 4—bromo—N, N—diethyl—5,5—dimethyl—2,5—dihydro—1,2—oxaphosphol—2—amine 2—oxide (Br—oxph), using Triticum aestivum as test plant. The treatment with Br—oxph at concentrations above 10−3M significantly decreased the root growth. The medium effective concentration values (EC50) of 2.3×10−3M were established. These results showed the existence of cytotoxic effects of Br—oxph on Triticum aestivum at tested concentrations.
