ABSTRACT

This paper explores the ongoing coming out process between parent and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) child. Framed with relational dialectics theory, this thematic analysis identifies turning points at three critical times: the child’s initial disclosure to parent(s), the child’s first post-disclosure dates and/or romantic relationship, and the parent becoming the ‘Parent of a LGBTQ child.’ This paper concludes with recommendations for future research studies exploring the coming out process between parents and their LGBTQ children.
