Editors’ Special Prize

The ‘Editors’ Special Prize’ is an occasional event to mark the outstanding contribution that an author has made to JEPP, either for a particular publication or for a series of publications over time. We are delighted to award an Editors’ Special Prize to Frank Schimmelfennig. Frank has published no less than 29 articles in JEPP between 2002 and 2021. His first JEPP article was in 2002: “Theorizing EU enlargement: research focus, hypotheses, and the state of research” (with U. Sedelmeier), Journal of European Public Policy 9 (4), 500-528. His most cited JEPP piece is “Governance by conditionality: EU rule transfer to the candidate countries of Central and Eastern Europe”, (with U. Sedelmeier), Journal of European Public Policy 11 (4), 661-679 (>1800 Google Scholar citations as of today). Frank has also made a huge contribution to JEPP as a referee and as Editor of several very successful Special Issues. In short, Frank has made a unique contribution to JEPP's success.

The work of a Journal Editor can be a little trying at times but we can say, hand on heart, that Frank has never been responsible for raising the blood pressure of either of us! A fine colleague indeed.

Previous winner(s) of the Editors’ Special Prize:

2020: Sara B. Hobolt
