Please note that in this issue, 17(1&2), of Visual Cognition, in the paper by George Alvarez and Todd Thompson entitled “Overwriting and rebinding: Why feature-switch detection tasks underestimate the binding capacity of visual working memory”, there is an error on p. 149.
An alert reader brought the authors’ attention to the error in the Methods section on p. 149, under Data Analysis, Capacity K. The error occurs in equations (Equation7) and (Equation8), in which the portions reading “(2*N+1)” should read “(2*N−1)”.
While the equation was written incorrectly in the text, the correct equation was used in the analyses reported in the paper, and so none of the results reported in the paper are incorrect. Note also that equation Equation8 is the equation for computing the K value in a switch detection task (K switch), rather than a 4 alternative forced choice task (K 4AFC). Correct versions of equations Equation7 and Equation8 are included below.
