Isolated Unilateral Hypoglossal Neuropathy caused by Odontoid Peg Osteomyelitis: Case Report

Abstract

We report a case of osteomyelitis of the odontoid peg presenting as an isolated unilateral hypoglossal nerve palsy. The diagnosis was confirmed using MRI, CT scan and Bone scan. A review of the world literature revealed 19 previous reports of odontoid peg osteomyelitis but none presenting as an isolated unilateral hypoglossal nerve palsy.
